The casino industry makes most of its money off of all of the glitz and glamor that brings you in. When you step into a popular casino in Monte Carlo, slick tuxedo or stunning gown at the ready, you feel a certain way. You feel powerful, cool, and most importantly, like a winner. Granted, you may not always win (which is another way that casinos make money), but at least you get some great feelings out of the deal. Hotel Safety Tips to Make Your Travel Safer

It is important to remember a few tips during your hotel stay so that your trip is carefree and safe.

When you are ready to book your stay, check out the area you plan to visit for such things as crime, access to freeways, parking lots with plenty of lighting and nearby shops and restaurants. An excellent source of information is to do an online search for reviews and recommendations. This way you typically get an unbiased review from a source that has utilized the hotel you are looking at booking.

Once you choose your hotel and have arrived, park close to the front and near or under lighting if possible. Not only is this more convenient for unloading and loading your vehicle but lessens the change of a break-in or robbery. Be sure to have your vehicle free of any visible valuables such as GPS units, purses, electronic equipment, etc. If you have tinted windows this is a plus but if not, cover up anything you do not plan to bring inside.

Do not take extra room keys if they are not needed and if you are not alone at the front desk try to not allow people nearby to hear the room number that you are using. Often, this is printed on your paperwork or room key so there is no reason it has to be spoken out loud for others to hear. Bring in your own bags as well if possible. This way you have no worries of your luggage being misplaced or unattended.

Once you find your room look for the fire exits and find the in-room safe if your hotel has that option. It is also a good idea to have a radio or television on if you are not in the room just so that others believe someone is in the room; an empty room is ideal for a break-in.

Do not give others your room number if you meet new people while on your trip and use a cell phone to communicate since often times a phone number to your room reveals the room number.

What is Couch Surfing?

If you have ever stayed with a friend for a while you have couch surfed. That is the most basic definition of the term. A more expansive definition might be an individual who stays with a variety of people for a short or an extended period of time. If you choose to couch surf you should be very cordial and never over stay your welcome. Always confirm your plans with your host ahead of time. While someone may give you the invitation for an open-ended visit, they may grow tired of you. Aside from that it’s more respectful and gives them a chance to plan and prepare for your stay.

When you are in someone else’s home be sure to follow all the usual rules you would normally. If they make any request be sure to follow them. If at any point you are unsure, it never hurts to ask. An example might be if you should take your shoes off when entering the home or where the towels might be. Always clean up after yourself, and furthermore you should offer to help your hosts clean up as well. This is important because generally speaking you want your host to appreciate your visit and enjoy the company you provide. This way in the future they will be a lot more apt to allow you to stay again. In the future if your host should every need a place to stay you should consider extending the same courtesy as they have to you.

Traveling with Larger Pets

Some people take their pets everywhere, and this includes those who have pets that will not fit into a large purse or other small carrier. Some people think nothing of taking their 100-pound German Shepherd or Labrador Retriever with them when they travel.

Surprisingly, although it may seem like a lot of trouble to travel with larger pets, it can be fairly easy. The important thing to remember is that the pet will need plenty of room to move around. Therefore, if you do not own a large pick-up with extra cab space or a covered bed, or a sports utility vehicle or crossover vehicle, you may want to consider renting one when you take a longer trip.

Remember, going on a longer trip will be different than just running around town. Your pet may be comfortable enough in the car for short rides, but longer ones will be different, and it will need room to stand up, turn around, stretch, and otherwise “work the kinks out.”

The next thing to check for is pet-friendly lodgings, especially those that accept larger dogs. (Many motels and hotels have a size limit; others don’t.) If you are traveling on a budget, you can simply set a price range for your lodging expenses, and start contacting hotels and motels in that range to inquire about their pet policy. You’re bound to find one that will welcome your larger pet, especially if you’ve trained it well.

Larger dogs can also be harder to take care of medically while on a trip, so consider getting a pet insurance policy that covers medical issues even while on the road. This ensures you’ll be able to afford the proper care it needs to make a full recovery.
